TP: Direct speech is not introduced in variant b and therefore it might seem more likely that ὅτι (variant a) would be a secondary addition. This is, however, countered by the fact that Mark (unlike Matthew and Luke) regularly uses ὅτι to introduce direct speech.^[1] In addition, ὅτι is absent in the parallel (Matt 15:33).
