Split a/b
GC: With IR=a, the attestation of the majority reading, a, looks strong and coherent, but the majority of witnesses have 35 at its top, a witness whose first and second potential ancestors support e. With IR=? and connectivity set to “Low”, the a attestation shows considerable incoherencies and the core of early A-related witnesses is reduced to 03 and 04. The A-related part of the attestation of b is stronger, but incoherencies point to multiple emergence here as well.
TP: Metzger believes that ὄντας may have been moved closer to τινάς in b “to prevent the reader from taking ὄντας chiefly with what follows (‘being both men and women’)” (317). However, τινάς is close enough to ὄντας in a to be easily identified as the antecedent with the genitive placed nicely between them. In fact, the position of the participle appears to be a bit awkward in b, and one can argue that this may have motivated scribes to establish the word order enclosing the genitive.
