can you please help me? I would like to find transliteration for this Qumran/Dead sea scroll 28a/IQSa from Isaiah, cave 1.

I ain't sure how to find the id or name of the doc, how to find it on NTVMR Manuscript Workspace? I am having troubles to recognise some characters like yod and wav which are very similar. So transliteration needed.

Hello Radim,

The NTVMR is, as far as I'm aware, only for New Testament manuscripts (hence NT), so DSS manuscript transcriptions won't be found here.

You can likely find better quality (and zoomable) images over at the Leon Levy Dead Sea Scrolls Digital Library - https://www.deadseascrolls.org.il/explore-the-archive/manuscript/1Q28a-1 - and see if that helps you in working out the difference between the Yods and Waws/Vavs.

I did not manage to download it but I can view it. Figure 2 and Figure 3 are quite usefull with the page 14-16 with the hebrew transcription. Now I have the problem with low resulution but I learen at least 3 characters.

My observation:

Here is the revised summary of the visual similarities between Hebrew letters from the Dead Sea Scrolls, Cave 1, and Latin letters in English:

1. כ (Chaf): It bears resemblance to the Latin letter "y" in certain cases. The vertical stroke at the beginning of the word is longer, and the bottom horizontal line extends to the left, resembling the Latin "y." However, it may visually differ from the letter "ч." It is also similar to the letter "bet" in this manuscript.

2. ב (Bet): It has a resemblance to the Latin letter "y." In some cases, the upper horizontal stroke may be curved in the middle, resembling the Latin letters "y" or "j."

3. ר (Resh): In some cases, it bears resemblance to the letter "ч" in Ukrainian or the letter "r" in Latin.

4. ד (Dalet): It resembles the Latin letter "y." In some instances, it may have a bottom leftward curving stroke, reminiscent of the Latin letter "j."

5. פ (Pe): At first glance, it resembles the letter "y," but it has a leftward-pointing stroke at the bottom. It also shares similarities with the letter "bet" in this manuscript.

6. נ (Nun): In some cases, it may resemble the number "3" or have a curved shape.
