GC: Variant a has a relatively coherent attestation including most of the A related witnesses. Variant b has a coherent MT attestation with P45 as its earliest witness.

TP: There is a general tendency in later Greek to favor compound verbs (cf. the parallel at Luke 9:42), but συσπαράσσω is a rare word and the meaning of the prefix is not immediately clear. Therefore the simple form in the MT may well be the result from smoothing. There is a good argument for an open decision, but since a seems to be uncommon and its attestation has a far broader A-related core it was preferred as the A text.
